Things to do in Amsterdam for Halloween?
Halloween is the one of the highlights of Autumn for many people and if they’re overseas travelling it’s often something that they’re keen not to miss! Historically, Halloween in the Netherlands hasn’t been such a big celebration as in other countries… Although it’s not as big a deal as in North America, Halloween 2019 promises to see the Dutch capital putting on some pretty great parties!
If you’re heading to Amsterdam over the Halloween Weekend, here’s some great tips to make sure you have the best time possible!
Amsterdam Halloween – Parade through the streets in fancy dress on a pub crawl!
One of the best options for people visiting Amsterdam over Halloween is to attend one of the city’s best parties – the annual Halloween Pub Crawl. Including all the usual drinks deals, unlimited shots and club entry, the Halloween Pub Crawl also includes face paints etc so everyone can get in the spirit! There are prizes for the best costume and this pub crawl has grown in popularity over the years, being well attended by many of the city’s hostels etc. You can find out more and book tickets here!
Halloween Amsterdam Shops – dress to impress this Halloween!
If you find yourself in Amsterdam and attending a Halloween Party, you may need to buy a last-minute costume (assuming you haven’t packed yours!)… Louis Wittenburg is a great costume shop in the centre of town (Raadhuisstraat 16) but for those on a real budget, there’s always Primark – right on the Damrak, it’s the perfect place to pick up a last minute-costume for a few euros. If you’re heading on a messy Halloween Pub Crawl or enjoying a Booze Cruise in costume, it reduces the chance of losing your deposit due to a spilt drink or two (or worse!). Pay-per-kilo vintage shops are also a great place to pick up a last-minute costume at a good price (there are a few of these across trendier parts of the city!).
Halloween Club Nights
Some of the city’s clubs are putting on Halloween Parties on varying days between the 25th October and 2nd November. Some of the best-known will be Melkweg, Westerunie, Club Nyx and Paradiso. In addition to these well-known parties, a lot of smaller venues across the city will be putting up a few decorations and getting in the spirit! Just take a look at their agendas online for more information.
Other things to do in Amsterdam in Autumn
Although it’s not specifically related to Halloween, a unique but slightly spooky way to celebrate this time of year has to be the Amsterdam Museum Night. You can read more about the Amsterdam Museum Night as well as the season’s other top Arts events here in our partners at Starboard Boats’ blog on the subject!
Wherever you spend Halloween, we hope you have a great time and enjoy a Spooktacular night in Amsterdam! Trick or Treat may not have arrived in Amsterdam just yet (our vibe is perhaps more trip and treat!) but there’s plenty going on this year and there’s no need to be scared that you’ll be missing out!
